Supersets: Helping young players access the right physical preparation

East of Scotland Tennis recently announced Supersets Tennis Athlete Performance as its official Strength & Conditioning (S&C) supplier, strengthening the region’s commitment to developing the next generation of tennis players through high-quality, tennis-specific development for both juniors and adults.

CEO of Supersets Tennis Athlete Performance is Darren Linton (lead Strength & Conditioning trainer for East of Scotland Tennis). We sat down with him to find out a bit more about the man behind the business.

“I have a degree in Sports Science and have been a qualified personal trainer for the past 12 years,” Darren explains. “My main sporting background has always been football, having played at various levels from amateur football through to semi-professional level in the East of Scotland and Lowland League.

“I had scholarship opportunities when I was younger but chose to stay in Scotland to continue my education through college and university while continuing to play football here and pursue my career in sports coaching / personal training.”

It was through tennis, however, that a spark of an idea grew into Supersets.

“My route into tennis started through strength and conditioning work with Hanna and Natalia Augustynska,” he continues, “which then led to an introduction to Calum Lloyd and the opportunity to get involved with the East of Scotland squads.”

Over the past three years, Darren’s involvement in tennis grew significantly and, as his tennis client base continued to develop, he realised there were opportunities to do more to support the young tennis athletes coming through.

“That was the inspiration behind starting Supersets,” he confirms. “To create a platform where young players can access the right physical preparation, support and development to help them maximise their potential on court.

“By bringing together strength and conditioning, tennis coaching, physiotherapy support and performance services under one roof, we help players develop every aspect of their game, not just their tennis.”

Supersets works with players at every stage of their journey, from aspiring juniors taking their first steps in competition to national and international athletes striving to perform at the highest level.

“Everything works together to help players build stronger bodies, improve their performance on court and compete with confidence. As our mission statement says: One team. One pathway. Every part of your performance.”
